To kick off the week of action, Dream for Darfur is airing an "Alternative Opening Ceremony" on August 8 featuring musicians like R.E.M., Talib Kweli, Carly Simon, and many more who have donated music videos to Darfur.

For over five years, the Sudanese government -- backed by China, its closest ally -- has been responsible for the genocide in Darfur that has murdered more than 300,000 people and caused over 2.5 million to flee their homes.
