Stand Up for Darfur Concert
                                Tuesday, October 23rd 2007 7:30pm
A Collaboration of Darfur Interfaith Network and the GW STAND (Students Taking Action Now: Darfur)
Daowd Salih was one of the speakers invited to speak along with Ms. Zainab Al Suwaij, President of the American Islamic Council. The event opened with a welcome speech by Miss Olivia Hallihan and Mr. Sean Redding, both students of the George Washington University. The concert would not have been complete without the invocation delivered by Reverend Kimberly Barnes and Rabbi Charles M. Feinberg, bringing a united front to stand up for justice in Darfur. Mr. Salih’s speech was informative, although it was quite short, as he was only given about five minutes to speak on the situation in Darfur. The time given to each speaker was short, so as to ensure that the audience was entertained and informed. He emphasized the fact that the conflict in Darfur has been ongoing since 1994. The night ended very well, and a lot of money was raised to benefit International Medical Corps, a Non Governmental Organization, and another one whose name was not mentioned due to security concerns for the safety of the humanitarian relief workers.
