Deathtoll Rising Rapidly in Darfur
November 20, 2006
The Damanga Coalition
for Freedom and Democracy has received sobering news indicating
that in spite of international outcry, the security situation in
Darfur
continues to deteriorate.
Eyewitnesses have reported
that government troops and Janjaweed militia carried out multiple
attacks in the mountainous Jabel-moon area in northern
Darfur
. Between November 11 and November
16, more than 50 villagers were killed and 45 were injured, some
critically, in attacks in the region, which is inhabited primarily
by Tama tribes.
Over the same period,
similar attacks were carried out in eastern and southern
Darfur
, resulting in dozens of additional deaths. Huts were burned down and water sources
were destroyed as well. Among
the villages attacked were Om-ramy, Labbos, Om-jedaiwa, Fedeala,
Hilat Juma, Talba, Angabo, and Motorat.
The identities of several
of the dead have not yet been determined, and other people have
gone missing. A partial list
