Sudanese Army, Janjaweed Militia Join Forces Near El Fasher

Damanga Coalition for Freedom and Democracy is extremely concerned about disturbing reports that the Sudanese government has launched a combination force of Sudanese Army and Janjaweed militia members near the city of El Fasher.  According to four Damanga sources who witnessed the troop movements, a total of over 500 troops were seen at around 9:15 AM on Friday, March 9, 2007, moving toward the western part of El Fasher.

Witnesses say the new troops are being sent to supplement hundreds who arrived last week in the Kabkabia and Tawila areas.

The incoming forces were led by a caravan of nine Toyota Landcruisers.  Each vehicle was armed with a Doshka machine gun and carried thirteen soldiers, along with two officers in the front and one driver.  In addition, witnesses observed seven large Rhino trucks loaded with troops, ammunition, and supplies, as well as two Big ZY trucks, one carrying gas and the other carrying drinking water.  The amount of troops and supplies observed indicate that the cobmined force is embarking on a substantial military campaign.
