Two darfurian lawyers
arrested in khartoum
May 27, 2008
The Damanga Coalition for Freedom and Democracy
has just learned that two Darfuri lawyers have been
arrested in Khartoum following the May 10th attacks
led by the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) against
the Sudanese Government. Damanga is disturbed by this
unjust campaign against Darfuri civilians who have no
relationship with any of the rebels opposing the Sudanese
government.
Adam Ishag Abdu, a 39 year old lawyer, was arrested
last Friday May 23rd in front of his house in Ambada
District in Omdurman by six security men and two soldiers
who forced him into their Land Cruiser pickup. No information
is available about where he has been taken. Mr. Abdu
has never been known to associate with any rebel groups
and has always been ambivalent towards politics.
Mr. Abu Shakur Drar, another Darfuri lawyer,
was arrested in front of his house two days after the
JEM attacks in Khartoum. His office is also located
in Libyan Market in Omdurman. No information is available
about his whereabouts.
