a new attack against
chadian government
June 25, 2008
From the 14th of June to date, there have been
continuing conflicts around the Chadian Border between
the Chadian rebels and the Sudanese Janjaweed militia.
The fighting has invoked the use of over 150 vehicles
and hundreds of horse and the casualties resulting have
been many. In Goz-Beida on the border of Chad, vast
areas with large refugee population were destroyed.
The Janjaweed made an attempt to enter the camps but
were defeated by the peacekeepers. Also around the Cici
area in Um-dam and Balting, the Chadian rebels combine
forces with various tribes including the Goran, Tama,
Bargo and some of the Zagawa. In addition, the Justice
and Equality movement (JEM) have been fighting with
the Janjaweed around the Greida area of South Sudan,
as of yet, there have been no reports on the number
of casualties. Written reports express the Sudanese
government’s concern that the Chadian army may
be able to defeat the Sudanese.
