March 4th: “Black Monday” & Destruction in Darfur
March 4, 2009
According to reliable information from Khartoum, The Sudanese Government, in conjunction with the Sudan Popular Defence Force, have vowed to make March 4th a day to target families and supporters of the ICC indictment of President Al-Bashir. This lawlessness, led by State Minister of the Ministerial Council, Mr. Kamal Abdel Lateef, comes as a direct and violent response to the ICC’s issuing of Bashir’s arrest warrant.
Sudanese leaders have promised to repeat “Black Monday” in the Darfur region, referencing the destruction following the death of Dr. Garang in 2005. The leaders have even distributed more weapons to the soldiers working in conjunction with the government so that they may “defend the honor of the nation” and create total destruction within Darfur.
The Damanga Coalition for Freedom and Democracy is outraged and extremely disturbed by this recent news. The international community should not tolerate this lawlessness, as it is an effort to destroy Darfuri families and all peace and diplomacy efforts in the region. Damanga urges the international community to speak and act out against this violence: we cannot let this evil go unpunished any longer. The violence in Darfur must stop NOW.
