The detention of a Massaleit activist in an unknown location in Khartoum, Sudan (9/08/2003)

Mohamad Abdalla Addoma, a Massaleit lawyer and activist was picked up by Sudanese government security agents from his home in Khartoum South last Friday night, September 5th, and taken to an unknown location.

Addoma was arrested after participating in meetings with Massaleit university students in Khartoum. The students demonstrated within their university campuses and issued a strong press release condemning random bombings of villages in western Sudan, actions that have caused many civilian deaths.

The RMCE is very concerned for the life of Addoma. Extra judicial killings, disappearances and torture in ghost houses are commonly used by Sudan security forces against opponents of the Sudanese regime.

We urge the international community to press the Sudanese government to charge Addoma in a court of law if he has committed any crime or set him free immediately.
